Planning: Describe your initial ideas for the visual style and graphics of your digipak and advertisements.

Digipak
Digipaks typically consist of a gatefold (book-style) paperboard or card stock outer binding, with one or more plastic trays capable of holding a CD or DVD attached to the inside.
Digipak-style packaging is often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums and the tall DVD Digipak (DVDigipak) is used as a premium package for DVDs and DVD sets.

I have chosen to create a 6 panel digipak I want my digipack to be vibrant, eye-catching and interesting. I am not totally sure on which particular graphics I will be using, but I am thinking to have at least one image of myself as I am the artist (Estelle). I also definitely want an image of my group. I believe that the packaging for a CD is very important as it reflects on the artist and the songs.

Planning: Test shots for lighting & mise-en-scene.

Production: Analysis of a sequence from rough cut

I realised that one of our weaknesses was that we had many good cuts, but the problem was that we put the cuts before lines were completed. For instance 0:31st second we jump to another shot before the artists line is completed which makes the shots put together seem careless.

If you want your music video to be excellent, in my opinion you have to analyse your shots carefully even if it means watching it over and over again. Because in the end, the hard work will hopefully give you the outcome you want.

Production: Analysis of a sequence from rough cut

Analysing Sequence: 2 min 14 sec and onwards

We have a mid shot of our female artist singing from the half way through her verse then it leads to male singer. I believe the verse should have been edited from the beginning and we should never cut in between a verse unless it fits to the beat. Therefore I believe we need to be aware of this as the cuts into the verses without to the beat does not allow the sequence to run ongoing.

I think our shots and lighting works very well. We are able to see the artists clearly (by the use of mid shot) and with the right selection of lighting has allowed us to have a clear view of them as we could of had a major problem as we were filming at evening.

Production: Rough Cut Movie

Our rough cut music video has allowed us to allocate techniques and improvements which will be need to done. There are many things that we need to change in terms of filming and editing from the feedback given by the teachers.

Feedback:
  • Shot and lighting works very well
  •  Keeping the location same in each verse, we planned to film parts of a verse in different locations.
  •  Some shots need to be completed

As a group, we need to improve on those terms and we have decided to film few shots again and get the rest of the video shots done. However using one location for each verse and chorus will be in the same location but different verse/chorus will lead to a different location.
